You’ve probably all heard of numerology already. But what is it, exactly? Is it easy to learn?
I won’t teach you THE numerology, but “one” of the numerologies that can be linked to esotericism. To my mind, numerology can be applied to many areas (the study of a person (a portrait), the analysis of a year, life choices, and so on).
In numerology, each letter is considered to have a numerical value. That value doesn’t depend only on how many letters make up your first name: each letter brings a kind of “character”, keys that open unsuspected doors.
So your last name, your first name, and your date of birth can be used to “paint your portrait”. Everyone is then free to decide whether numbers really can influence our lives.
I especially invite you to visit some websites which, in this age of the free internet, offer you your own study. Fill in the fields and discover your portrait for free.
Of course, some answers won’t necessarily fit you like a glove. Why? Quite simply because numbers are useful to “draw us a life path”, but they in no way impose it. Everyone remains free in their actions, their thoughts, and… their destiny!
You can also consult a numerologist. Some psychics on online platforms use numerology during their psychic reading. It lets them refine their predictions and spot the beginning or the end of a cycle. Note that some cycles are more positive than others. And yes, life isn’t always smooth sailing…
First, let’s study the numbers.
You’ll always find a symbolism attached to numbers, especially in the cards of the Marseille Tarot, a basic deck and a reference for any medium. You don’t need to know each card in depth. Just know that the card numbers weren’t chosen by pure “chance”. Let’s decode the cards of the Marseille Tarot together.
The number 1 is linked to beginnings, to a somewhat innocent person who always takes a fresh, lively look at everything. But in its negative sense, the number 1 can suggest a person who “manages” alone, who withdraws from others. So watch out for this precise point: of course you can be alone if you’re self-confident, but that’s no reason to shut others out of your life. The risk is also to believe yourself “superior” to others, in the sense that you think you don’t need them. Think of the Hermit in the Marseille Tarot: he is alone, but he knows how to draw something from his time of withdrawal! The number 1 is linked with the 1st house in astrology: the Sun. So remember this image: the Sun as the source of vitality and warmth, and also the beginning of Life. Without it, nothing would be possible!
The number 2 calls on duality, confrontation, fighting spirit, the heat of action. Combative, the number 2 also brings the idea of the couple, of union (think of yin and yang), of partnership. So we’re talking about a careful blend, so that the two stay well balanced. You’ll need to keep these forces conscious and balanced to avoid any excess. Compare the number 2 with the two jugs of the Temperance card: they hold a careful blend of the past and the future. Water is the main symbol to remember with the number 2. Its strength stays calm as long as the wind doesn’t threaten. But water also brings to mind everything to do with tears: an emotional person, prone to “drifting” (low moods).
The number 3 symbolizes communication. The person is sociable, surrounded by others, and knows how to express themselves. Their strength lies in a magnetic aura: they’re a good speaker and know how to persuade. Aware of their power of attraction, they’ll favor communication in all its forms (which may also become their professional goal). Always make sure that this power of influence is used wisely.
Let’s move on to the number 4, embodied by the Emperor card. Remember that the person is balanced, on solid ground, with a strong reputation built over the years. This individual will handle the successes to come with a lot of intelligence and flair. Progress will largely come through intellect, reflection, logic, and reasoning.
The number 5 calls for changes that will come with wisdom and perspective. The “5” brings to mind the Famous Five, and the 5 senses. True to this image, the number 5 symbolizes travel, movement, and journeys. The person moves around a lot and has a thirst for discovery, fed by a very intense curiosity. These 5 senses point to complementarity.
The number 6 brings to mind the so-called number of the curse, which is none other than this number repeated. Marked by this dimension of struggle, the number 6 is also associated with the Lover card in the Marseille Tarot. Remember this dimension of sociability, home, Love, and bonds with others. These bonds can be family, emotional, or romantic ones. Either way, they are “charged”. The person refuses to stay in a “flat” relationship, without any outpouring of feelings. On the contrary, they’re surrounded by people who push them to choose, so that they take a clear position. Choices will probably be unavoidable.
The number 7 is one of the strongest in esotericism. It carries the symbolism of the 7 planes, the 7 Heavens… and the 7 Dwarfs! The absolute number of esotericism, it takes this whole dimension of introspection, meditation, and spirituality to its peak. The person, very spiritual, will find answers within. The spiritual quest will hold a strong influence. Contemplation, meditation, study, the arts, and awareness will be key words. Thoughtful, composed, balanced: it goes without saying that the 7 is one of the most “noble” numbers.
The 8 is less cheerful than the 7, since card 8 of the Marseille Tarot is none other than Justice. Concerned with balance, the person will weigh the pros and cons before “deciding”. The quest for Truth will matter deeply to this individual, whose sense of Justice is refined and productive. Justice also brings a sense of responsibility and power. Every act is subject to Divine and Earthly Justice. So beware: what goes around comes around!
The number 9 is the number of introspection and meditation, but at a lower level, and with less accomplishment, than the 7. Withdrawn, the Hermit has only a small glimmer left to guide him. His eyes are of no help, so dark has the path become. He must trust this glimmer, which can go out at any moment. But he’ll probably come out victorious once he has learned from his mistakes. Cut off from everything and everyone, the Hermit must understand the meaning of Life, even if it costs him dearly. It’s a lesson.
We can’t stop when we’re on such a roll: you can’t talk about numerology without mentioning the master numbers. What are they? The master numbers are counted this way: 11 and 22 are the ones most used in numerology.
The number 11 means something other than the simple doubling of the number 1. Highly “respected”, it doesn’t come up often. A key number in esotericism (as it is for the fine ability of clairvoyance), it gives a person a destiny as rare as the number itself. Strong and gentle at once, it holds a privileged place, especially as a guide, a point of reference. Be careful not to let it go to your head, or you may become a true despot, ruling your territory like a tyrant. Then the strength of the number turns against the individual. So the number 11 is, in a way, a double-edged sword.
The number 22 turns out to be as rare as the 11, and carries an even sharper sense of rarity, of something precious and unconditional. Powerful and radiant, it brings high achievement, both for oneself and for others. Far from being individualistic, the 22 spreads its own broad radiance, which benefits everyone. Just like the 11, the strength of this number must always be in good hands!
If your calculation gives you a number greater than 9 (other than 11 and 22), you need to reduce it. For example: if you got 15, add its digits together: 1+5 = 6.
Want to know how a business will develop? Start by writing its name on a piece of paper. Then, under each letter, write its position in the alphabet (A: 1, B: 2, C: 3, D: 4… Z: 26), without forgetting the little calculation if the number is greater than 9 and isn’t 11 or 22. You’ll then get a certain reflection of the foundations and potential of this business.
Want to know whether your love story has a chance of working out? Use the date your relationship began as its official date. Then reduce the number, and you’ll find the “color” of this story. For example, if you met on 05.17.2004, calculate 1+7+0+5+2+0+0+4 = 19 = 1+9 = 10 = 1+0 = 1. This story is innocent and naive, with an impulsiveness that will need to be channeled. The number 1 brings unity, fusion. So this couple will surely have a passionate, inseparable side. This interpretation reminds me of what Sacha Guitry said: “Marriage is the union of two beings to form just one. The question is: which one?”
A question, an experience, another way of seeing things… The discovery continues in the conversation.
