    Faceted teardrop in an engraved circle

    Nothing ties the teardrop to the circle except its loop at the very top: it floats in the middle without touching the edges. Its facets cut the fibers of the tiger’s eye into small brown and tawny squares, and the circle, grained all over, catches the brightness here and there. A circle is already a kind of protection, a line drawn around what matters, and the stone adds its self-assurance. What matters, as it happens, stays at the center.

    From the front, all you see is the circle, high on the neckline, while the little gold-tone heart hangs somewhere else, at the end of the chain, at the nape.
