The Kinthia collection

Flower of Life Jewelry & Objects

Flower of life jewelry and objects repeat a design a compass alone can draw: circles of equal size, each centered on the edge of the last, until they form a rosette. It appears engraved, in openwork, or cut out, on a ring, a keychain, or a motif to hang. The symbol is worn or set out, depending on whether you’d rather keep it on you or see it on the wall.

A motif older than you might think

It appears engraved on a wall of the temple of Osiris at Abydos, in Egypt, and Leonardo da Vinci studied it in his notebooks. The name flower of life, on the other hand, is far more recent: it took hold with modern esoteric movements, which look to geometric figures for a hidden order in the world, and made this design one of their favorite figures.

What the circles have to say

At the heart of the motif, seven circles form what is called the seed of life. Its admirers read into it the idea of an order shared by all things, a kind of blueprint where each shape grows out of the one before. Worn or placed in a room, it also serves many people as a support for an intention. Everyone is free to see in it whatever speaks to them.

Worn on you, in metal

Cut metal suits it especially well. An openwork ring lets the skin show through its circles, with no stone to pull the eye away. An engraved keychain takes it everywhere, slipped into a pocket or clipped to a bag.

On the wall, in large format

The motif also comes in a larger size, in wood, for the wall or a piece of furniture: those pieces have a page of their own, for wooden flowers of life. As a gift, the flower of life pleases anyone curious about ancient symbols, or anyone who simply likes a well-drawn rosette.
